god, no matter how much i reread it, it knocks my breath right out. it's so horribly visceral, body-grounded, with no chance for ignis to get out of the reality of their situation for even a second, and i love love love how completely and utterly unprepared he is, how horrified andagonized his decisions are - and yet, with all the inner anguish, there's never a question of him making the other one. ugh, hes so goddamn brave and good, poor kid. ugh, he's tried so hard and so valiantly. ugh, my heart.
(and also that's one goddamn great and chilling villain. i love that even her own people are like 'uh, so far?', and yet they go with it, and i love how enthusiastically horrible she is, and that visual description of hers - the face that's too small for her skull - it's such a little throwaway line and yet it's so effective, it sticks so well. it's GREAT.)
