Okay, now that I have finished it. I seriously just sat still and stared off into space for 5 minutes because that ending was great! Firstly, I meant to say "even if you believe you're OOC, I think your writing is within believability of the original characters." Oops for typos. My apologies.
My overall impression of your fic did not change. I was hooked, line, and sinker since the first couple of sentences. As other's have mentioned, your writing style was captivating and emulated the overall tone of the original novel. That being said, I do not mean you aren't creative in your own right. It just simply made this divergent path more believable and made me simply awestruck.
With how you stayed true to the characters, but gave Yanli a more proactive role, illustrated the resemblance of the Jiang siblings to their parents, and the "what if" moments where Wei Ying did not become the Yiling Patriarch... and many other moments throughout your story was inspiring. And I have to say, as a final note, this really shed some light on how Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's personalities synergize together and made me understand them a lot better, or at least, how I want to comprehend their relationship. Yes, I'm aware this is a fanfic, however, I do believe it adds on to the original novel and explored a lot of other themes and motifs very well.
That was long... my rambling got the better of me. My overall message is, well done! Thank you for sharing. I loved every moment of this adventure. I'll be sure to check out your other fics that grab my interest and if I'm in those other fandoms too. <3 Take care now.
