    Yayaya! Matt Holt!! He is my second favorite character right after Keith!!! There are definitely not enough of them out there, so I am super excited to see another one, especially one you are writing because you do such an amazing job at writing and you are always able to get their characterizations down perfectly!! And it is a fic right after the Shiro and him separated! Definitely had good ideas of what happened afterwards, but now we get a fic!! ((because, again, not enough Matt Holt fics out there))
    There 1st 2 sentences "His leg hurt, but his heart hurt worse.." got me like, oof!! Right through the heart! I really love how this 1st chapter goes through what Matt might be thinking after Shiro took his place in the arena, Matt feeling guilty for putting Shiro in that position and then not knowing whether or not his best friend died because of it... you really did a good job if getting inside Matt's head. My favorite line was, "...and is that how they described them as humans? What was Matt then, skinny stick peach? He was offended" That just cracked me up! I love Matt and all of his sarcastic little comments he makes!
    This 1st chapter was amazing and I am looking forward to see what will happen next! Thank you for sharing!!

      Matt isn't a big favorite for me personally but he is a lot of fun to write :) he makes such fun little observations and has both this unique mix of analytical and hilarious reactions and he uses them to his advantage. And he is fun to whump :)
      I wrote this to line up perfectly with what (little) canon events we had of this timeline so I'm viewing it as a missing scene really that we never got to see (although far more violent than anything canon would ever show jaja). Matt is definitely going to be thinking about Shiro a lot throughout this entire fic as that guilt is so palatable it hurts and yet he's going to try to make the most of this chance Shiro gave him as a last way to honor him and his sacrifice. Although a lot of plans go awry a bit on that front ;p
