Comment on Taxonomy

  1. Damn, only one chapter left, yet it seems suspiciously as if you have given up on this, since the last update has been so far away. I think that's a shame, to be honest, because this is a perfectly well done story so far and this cliffhanger left me quivering with the urge to read about a resolution. Poor Sherlock and poor John, they are both indeed in a very uncomfortable situation. Sherlock has a lot of explaining to do and based on whatever his reasons are we'll have to see if John will mind too long about the Dark Mark, won't we? I would have really loved to read the conclusion to this. If you ever feel up to write this one again, please share with us. Otherwise I can only repeat myself and tell you it's a great story and a loss that it's left unfinished.

    Sincerely

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words. :)

      I never meant to give up on this- large chunks of the final chapter are already written, in fact. I usually don't post WIPs, and I only posted this one because I was so frustrated and I hoped it might help encourage me to finish. That didn't work, obviously. I tend to struggle a lot with endings and with Moriarty's characterization, and this story combines both problems. I've got another unrelated story 85% written but am stuck on the ending. It's maddening to me as well as to the reader! I was fighting very hard to finish at the time I posted up the first two chapters of Taxonomy, but my writing has really fallen off since then and I haven't been pushing myself because bad things happen to my head when I try to force myself to write even though I'm not having fun. I'm a very honest person so I can't tell you that this will definitely get finished. But I can say that I WANT to finish, that I'm at least partway there even if I can't promise when it might get posted.

      Either way, I really appreciate that you read the fic even knowing it was a WIP, and that you took the time to write this comment. Thank you. <3

      1. You are welcome. :)

        And I am rather surprised that unfinished stories are called WIPs. But now you are the second one to use it. I guess for me they've always been simply stories with the status of unfinished. WIP in my opinion is always something shorter, something more like a teaser.
        Anyway, I understand you position. I've been there myself, which is why nowadays I do no longer post stories that are unfinished or at least near enough the end that I KNOW for sure I am able to finish writing while I am already posting the chapters. The last time I posted a story too early, while it was still not finished, I ended up with a writer's block for six years. I DID finish it at the end and I think it even was better by then because I've had so many new ideas to add to the story. Yet, I have to say I never want my readers to suffer through such a long time of not knowing what is going to happen ever again. ^^;

        I am keeping your story on my alert list and hope and look forward that you will be able to overcome your own writer's block with the final chapter and finish the writing. I wish you best of luck. :)

        Sincerely

        1. That's one of the reasons I stopped posting my works chapter by chapter. The other reason was that posting piecemeal, as I was writing, locked things in place and kept me from rewriting earlier chapters. I found that maintaining the freedom to evaluate and edit the story as a whole made my writing better. In this case I made an exception mostly out of desperation. I'm sure you know yourself how frustrating it is when you just can't seem to get something to work!

          Thanks again for the well wishes. I hope taxonomy won't be a permanent disappointment.
