this brings up the question of- how long do normal bugs and Hallownest bugs live??? (excuse me for the shitty math)
I don’t remember how old Mary is (I assume 20-30 but that could be wrong) but Monomon thinks she’s possibly older than all of Hallownest, and in a different side story you said Hallownest is 3-4 generations in, right?
So going for a conservative estimate of ‘bugs live longer,’ Mary is 30 and there’s been 3 generations.(Mary’s Age/3 generations) for 10 human years/bug generation. In human terms, a generation is when people are 20-30 years old, so Hallownest bugs age at LEAST twice as fast as humans, being equivalent to 20 in bug aging after 10 human years. (So 2:1 bug:human)
If we went lower side (20 Mary’s Age/4 generations) then it’s 5 human years per bug generation, and if we say a generation is when everyone is about 30 years old, bugs age SIX times faster. (So 6:1 bug:human)
This could be unintentional and if it is valid, I just like to explore the horrifying idea that Mary is going to outlive just about everyone and everything except the gods and vessels in Hallownest, several times over, and that outsider bugs probably live more like the ‘shorter lifespan estimates,’ which could mean they live 13 years or less.
If the short lifespans are canon, I can’t wait for Mary to realize
