I hesitate to call myself a Twilight fan... I read the series in 2008 when my friend wouldn't stop telling me to read it. I was like what is this...? I didn't think Twilight was that bad compared to the later books in the series. Or, I should say, my eighteen-year-old self didn't. I liked the characters, and although sparkly vampires made me laugh, I figured what the heck, it's something to read. I got to New Moon and was just like, um, what???? I was angry that Bella just wallowed in depression for months and no one forced her to get help. And then I was angry for her taking Edward back like nothing happened. I got to Eclipse and thought it was my favorite book in the series. I liked that it had an actual plot... sort of. I read one chapter of Breaking Dawn and couldn't finish the rest of the book. It was just such a slog, I couldn't force myself to read it. I know what happens, because the friend who originally got me to read the series told me the basic plot points. YOu might be asking yourself, why is this girl reading Twilight fanfiction when she didn't particularly like the series? The answer is, I liked the characters and universe, and fanfiction has (usually) made the characters into much better versions of themselves. All of this is to say, I'm really enjoying this fic so far. I think I'll wait until after I finish this one and read the rest. I'm also going to subscribe to the series. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Oh, I welcome everyone, fans, non-fans, and former kinda-sorta-not-really fans like yourself. 😃 The fact is that the majority of my readers don't like TW at all and came together via a group dedicated to online analysis and mockery, but that in a lot of ways, this project came about for the very reasons you described, and you're totally right about it. I think SMeyer did genuinely have a decent story idea, but just lacked the skill to execute it. I didn't like the way canon played out, but I knew that in the world and the characters there was still a lot of potential and wanted to see if I could do something better with them.
So I'm glad that you're here and that you're liking things so far! I'd be delighted to hear your thoughts if you stick around, since you have a bit of a different background than the majority of my readers in your opinion/relationship with TW, and I do hope that you enjoy the rest!
