Comment on Mitth Part 5: Rebel and Destroyer

    I appreciate hearing Thrawn's thoughts again, and how he'd want his daughter to be free to choose his own path as he had. But what if that freedom is her becoming a follower of the Empire's enemies? Interesting!

    Also, I didn't realize he never intended to have a child. So...was that uncharacteristically careless of him? He usually plans everything! Or do they not have birth control in the Star Wars galaxy? I suppose we have no evidence of it, canonically speaking. I mean, Anakin and Padme getting pregnant was kind a big oopsie as well, and likely not intended, and they were both smart people who should have thought to avoid it if they had birth-control. With all the advanced tech and health-care in that universe, but first no underwear according to Lucas, and seemingly also no birth control? I don't know, what's your take on this?

      Great question, since I only touched on it a loooong time ago. Back in Part 1, Thell (Zi’ell at the time) believed she was infertile because of a speeder bike injury she had had growing up. This is actually part of why Thrawn felt comfortable being with her at all; as you say, he is extremely forward thinking and responsible. In Part 3, they are very surprised to find she is pregnant and are even extra worried about the pregnancy because of potential complications due to her injuries. She ends up having a C-section for this reason too. I definitely think they have birth control in Star Wars. I also think Anakin has a history of being reckless haha

        Omg yes, I completely forgot about that plot point! It has been a while since I read that first part but of course now I remember that she had been told she was sterile and had assured Thrawn that there was no risk in their intimacy. That helps so much to be reminded of that. And with Anakin...yeah you're right, he was kind of careless with things--fuck around and find out and all that. But Padme? Maybe she wanted to get pregnant, I don't know. She seemed to treat it as good news when she told Anakin, even though she sure was risking a lot if anyone found out!
