Much appreciate the meta, too, as well as the compliment; you absolutely get (with your example about the Dalmatian) the crucial importance of what I think of as the "reverse Chekov". "Chekov's gun" is the rule that if a gun is seen on stage it must later be seen to be fired, otherwise the audience are dissatisfied. "Reverse Chekov", which I think is equally important but dramatists don't (see for example Lillian Hellman's The Children's Hour) is that if a gun is shown to be fired on stage, the audience needs to know where it came from and how the shooter came to have it.
I like "reverse Chekov"! I was familiar with the "Chekov's gun" principle but I would never have thought of placing clues as its opposite. Clever you. :)
Btw, while we're talking - do you think we could have "Green Grow the Rushes, O!" for the Canon Addicts collection, too? I sent you an invite a couple of months ago but it may not have come through...
If you've still got the invite e-mail, just click on "accept invitation".
If you haven't, unfortunately I can't resend it, that works only once. In that case, add it by hand: Go to "edit story", find the "add to collections" line, type in the collection name ("Canon Addicts" should find us), then hit "update" (or "post", or whatever it says). Then it should pop up in the collection works list within a couple of hours. I'll let you know whether it got through.
