we were diagnosed with "high functioning" autism but after we got autistic burnout super hard we honestly feel like the label of high functioning doesn't really fit anymore. like to somebody who doesn't know us we probably seem Fine and Normal because we are very good at just sitting there silently suffering until we reach our breaking point, but inside we are just constantly struggling and we have trouble holding down a job or even doing volunteer work, and have just been unemployed and financially dependent for years.

Yeah that.. all sounds very familiar, especially the "holding down a job" thing. I'm in the same position: unemployed and dependent for several years now. Might not be so high functioning as I've been lead to believe. Hope stuff improves on y'all's end, and mine too for that matter.
