Hmm, parental roles... They kinda take turns, the thing is, one is a Northmen with all the (lack of) emotional touch that implies, and the other was a child soldier forced to try and push some semblance of normality when they were still figuring out peacetime. It takes pretty much all of House Stark to balance them to something resembling self-actualisation as can be realised in Westeros.
