    Man, I am so curious about this Caleb's backstory. What caused him to join up with Roger? Is Caleb actually Bren and still working for the Cerberus Assembly and Caleb is the fake name Bren used? Do the Mighty Nein exist in this AU?

    Does Exandrian magic differ from Tortallan magic in this AU (ie, Thom thinking that resurrection is a huge, once in a lifetime thing, a legendary feat only told in tales. Meanwhile in canon Exandria every cleric and druid with sufficient training can do it. Caleb revealing this to Thom could be so funny, if it holds true in this AU).

    I'm sure these questions will be answered (or maybe not) as the story unfolds. :D

    I don't know if the Grimhold Mountains are a canon name to Tortall, but the name "Grimhold Mountains" absolutely reeks of Matt's place-naming style. :D

      Thank you! <3 Answers to Caleb's backstory are coming! And will be more extensive than I had originally planned. The Grimhold Mountains *are* actually canon in Tortall.

      The Mighty Nein aren't a thing...for several reasons. The main one is that in this AU of Caleb's timeline, it will be years before the events of C2 even happen. There's also the fact that they wouldn't be the Mighty NEIN without Caleb.

      Exandrian magic does somewhat differ from Tortallan magic. I'll get into some of the details as we go on, but trying to figure out how to mash both magic systems together in a shared world was one of the more frustrating aspects of worldbuilding for this fic (especially when I got partway through the next chapter, remembered that Tortallan sorcerers do, in fact, use components for some spells and not *just* their Gift so I had to go back and rewrite a whole piece of dialogue).

        I'm so excited to read your worldbuilding, I can see how it would be frustrating in some ways like you mentioned, but also there's so much potential for comedy. Like Roger or Thom or somebody dropping the fact that immortals have been banished from human lands for 400 years by a barrier and Caleb being like "... you just described a series of creatures I have seen and literally fought inside Exandria in the past [small interval of time]"
