I am loving the potential of this story however a slight critique is Shadows characterization. I’m not complaining about it since he doesn’t have the baggage of the events of the Space Colony ARK however he is in a sense naturally closed off or at the very least stoic in a sense. Not to mention with his isolation he probably wouldn’t see the problem of how living fifty years and being essentially a teenager would be surprising for anyone.
I’m mostly just saying it because at times he sounds like Sonic. Which is a bit silly and goofy when Shadow is just cool and edgy.
Shadow likely comes off as intense because of his isolation. He probably also wants to deal with Eggman because he doesn’t like leaving things unfinished. Not to mention the flicky’s likely like his because he’s just always been there and was never a danger to them.
It does make sense though that Shadow would leave his island because he got excited over the danger. Not to mention when seeing his world getting just a bit bigger he would naturally want to see more of the world he never actually experience. I imagine he just never thought about leaving because he didn’t know anything else.
I also love that Maria is there, if anything I can imagine she could foster a greater love for the world. Not to mention I can imagine she takes Amy’s place during the events of Little World since Eggman kidnapped her because he assumed she was friends with Sonic during that time.
I can imagine Shadow going after Maria because she’s the first person to give him a gift.
However be careful of making her too close to Tails. It sort of looks like a copy and paste of his story so far. I mean Shadow has his rocket shoes so I don’t imagine why he needs a ride on a plane when he can just glide through the water.
Although I do imagine Maria following Shadow because he’s cool and likely looks very lonely. She doesn’t have any friends or family so they might as well be alone together. He also clearly doesn’t know how the world works so she’ll be there for him.
I’m mostly trying to say keep to the core concepts of the characters.
Anyway, I love what I am seeing so far and would very much like to talk more about this story because I’m a total sucker for switching Sonic and Shadow around. You can find me on tumblr and discord under the same username.

Edit: Nevermind, the story got me back into Archie Sonic and in a way this version of Shadow is on point. This is a version of Shadow who doesn’t take himself too seriously and can be corny at times. He’s serious and can be scary at times but that’s his look. Deep down he’s a hedgehog who is earnest and just wants to learn more about the world. While at the same time stopping Eggman once and for all since he’s not going to stop.
