    An Undertale SOUL with the colors of Perseverance, Patience, Conviction (Kindness+Justice), and Kindness. The colors are in horizontal stripes and fade into each other. Perseverance on each end holding it together. It is glowing against a black bg.

    Huh Paps is real in this version I guess? That makes a lot of things make sense actually. I kinda suspected it. The versions of Phantom that are more abusive tend to be Dust's own hallucinations dishing out his desire for self-punishment.

    I do like Phantom Paps, one of the most underrated and done dirty characters in my opinion. Tho maybe they are just both insane, what do I know?

      Maybe the best explanation I can give right now is that Phantom is both real and not real. He's definitely "around", as reader is able to sense him somewhat. But what he's saying is (sometimes) distorted by Dust's own traumas kicking in. He's still a Papyrus, a loving brother, but Dust might perceive him differently depending on his own mental state.

      It's complicated. Also I just didn't want to write him as only the annoying asshole -version that I see a lot

        Ooooooo interesting! Yeah I hate him being an asshole for no conceivable reason too XD But it does kinda make sense if he's just a hallucination made up of Dust's own self hatred. I just prefer actually there ghost phantom for multiple reasons.

        Yeah that reminds me of a way I wanna write him too (I do have a very specific fic idea where he would play a role that I will probably never get to actually writing). But anyway, I wanna write him where he is an actual ghost, and through the power of code shenanigans certain people can see him as well (sometimes? potentially? I might change my mind but that's not important to this anyway). And he does care about Dust and tries his best to help him. But when Dust's LV bloodlust/self hatred kicks in (or both at once) then his words start to distort into something awful that is not what he's saying at all. So he realizes that at those times it's better if he just shuts up, because no amount of reassurance will be heard, only awful shit that tears Dust down and that's the last thing he wants.

          Yea sounds very similar! I like the ghost idea, go for iiit (if the motivation strikes ofc)
