You're so dang sweet. I'm gonna squee myself to sleep for the next week >///<
As always, it's incredible to hear from you, and gosh your comment is seriously well-put and so flattering! This is more like a never-ending noodle of consciousness because I'm eating it up. This is all such high praise coming from Mrs. Raccoon herself XD Seriously, I'm so glad that it's an enjoyable read and you got me blushing in my boots over here.
I feel like characters are so much easier to characterize when they're... caricatures. That sounds really bad, but I mean it in a good way. Like, I as a writer can't tackle every single thing this character has ever or will ever deal with, but I can at least tackle a few with care. It's like when the description of a character doesn't mention their brown hair because the paragraph is more focused on their buck teeth and coke bottle glasses. The stuff that is mentioned becomes that much more central. I want the reader to wonder like why does she have these skills and not others? What kind of environment creates a person(bird) with this kind of personality(birdality)? And so on and so forth.
I completely agree that those powerful characters can be really fun to read, but I feel the same. I'm not the kind of person who is a badass veteran. Also, I want K'wirra to grow into that role of guardian in the same way Rocket does. She's still a rookie to the rest of the cosmos lol.
I think relatability kind of falls in line with how K'wirra fits into the GOTG dynamic. Like Rocket, she's way more 'human' than she looks. That and most of her life so far has been survival. She only had the luxury of building the skills she needed. Flying and mobility are huge for her kind and it's how she traverses the world
K'wirra is absolutely a chaos muppet. She has reasons for doing crazy shit, but it's still crazy shit she's doing. I can't wait for her to cause like so many problems. It's great because she's a character and a plot device all in one lol XD
I'm so glad that everything comes through. I love the idea of sounding like a fairy tale because fantasy is one of my favorite genres. I have such a vivid picture in my head that I want to describe that I usually need to cut down on the descriptions. I love describing things with metaphor and simile to try to evoke some kind of emotion, something instinctual in the reader that helps them read between the lines. I'm honestly so so happy that you feel this way. I'm like blushing so hard.
Sometimes I feel like I'm overdoing it with the short sentences and dramaticism, so that's really good to hear haha ^^ I wouldn't call myself a master of anything lol but reading this made my week.
All the Halcri's names have meanings even if they haven't been revealed yet. Honestly, I just put in their galactic standard name because I can't be writing "Ch'theerlaiiik" twenty-six times a chapter. XD I needed to make that reveal early, no matter who's POV we were in, both for me and the readers. I have a whole history and everything lined up for K'wirra's planet and race. It's hush-hush for now but you have not heard the last song of the Ch'theerlaiiik just yet, mostly because their society interests me so much. ^^ They've had a long regime(I think thats an appropriate word for them) and never had an egg hatch and become such a troublesome thing as K'wirra. Their society's values may have started a long time ago by way of hiding from predators or other situational dangers, but it's gotten really out of.... wing? I feel like that's such a human thing for a society of birds to do, to try so hard to live out your values to the exclusion of all else over generations so much that you create alien fascism, basically. I've always been fascinated with the human condition and this is such an interesting way to explore it that I couldn't resist. *u*
K'wirra's meeting with Groot was so fluid to write, it's like her character was meant for it. In my mind, I was imagining a cockatiel in a big metal cage, all bored and lonely. And then, someone comes out with...(drum roll) a frickin branch. That would be like winning a game show for her. XD Groot also represents a lot to her. Safety and shelter, as well as rest and camouflage, so she just has to know more about him. Spoiler alert they ARE going to be perfect besties. They'd get like matching friend necklaces.
I've been doing a lot of research to get Rocket as in character as possible. I've been taking notes of what he calls people in the MCU and there are insulting terms he uses specifically for people he has affection for and for people he actually hates. To anyone else, they all just sound like insults. And as rough and tumble as he is, what being could look at Groot and K'wirra together and say no? And he tries so hard to make the nicknaming seem like nothing even though that's like the second time ever that he's done that. And he pretends he doesn't care but like... she's a hand-less little squawker in a prison full of big ol' baddies(like him). He's literally incapable of turning her away. He's a difficult character to pin down and very complex, so I'm really happy that he's believable.
K'wirra in chaos or finding something pretty/shiny is like K'wirra on coke. She lights tf up. So glad that she comes off endearing instead of annoying tbh. I try to walk a very thin line with her. ^^
MFW the sexable space raccoon looks at me in the jail hallway. Larger than frickin' life, this guy.
Thank you so so much for stopping in! It's always a wonder to me that people are spending their time reading my little stories and the praise does wonders for my ego lol. Door's always open and hey, read at your own pace. Maybe I can stay ahead of you with the updates lol XD Thanks so much for all the feedback, you're an absolute dollface! <3

I honestly think this is such a wise approach. While people are the culmination of all our experiences, we don't remember all our experiences, you know? If we're asked about the things that had the strongest bearing on who we are, we usually pick out a handful of moments or people. I think you can create very nuanced characters while only directly dealing with a few core elements, and I think in particular are doing that very well indeed!

You are not. I promise. Your writing is SCRUMPTIOUS. absolutely luxe and luscious. please continue in this gorgeous style.

This is one of the things that makes him so endearing (and literally encapsulates his character so well). I love it. Fantastic.
Anyway, all this to say I can't wait for more of Groot and K'wirra and Rocket, and I'm excited to hopefully get to read another chapter today!
Yes, honestly Rocket is like a hard candy with a soft gooey inside. He just never melts in your mouth, you have to crack him open lol. I love that he thinks he's holding his emotions close to his chest but he's like... so frickin' obvious?
And ahh gosh, thank you! I'm so flattered that you like the characters so much uvu. I hope you enjoy the next chapter, whenever you get around to it!
