It's slow baby steps towards actual conversation but baby steps are still steps!
I do like that Cassandra is trying to help woth the communication, she's not great at it but she's trying!
Yes April, it's a cult. Solas would absolutely agree with you if you tell him that... well, maybe not outright but he'd definitely agree. I can't wait for the others to clue in that she keeps thinking of the dominant religion as a cult, that's bound to be hilarious.
So what kind of world state is she in? Who rules Fereldan? Who was the Warden and what did they choose during the Blight? And does Keiran exist? What gender/personality is Hawke and what choices were made?
I just realized that depending on how long it takes for her to learn how to verbally communication, the advisors might just go with the Templars in a "better safe than sorry", and April might not know what her options are. I'm kinda hoping she recruits from both sides. Advisors: We need to pick either the mages or the templars. April: *squiggly doodles of them recruiting both* Advisors: We can't have both, they'd never work together-- April: *furiously writing* Solas: I think she's asking "Why Not? We can recruit volunteers, surely not everyone from both sides are incapable of working together". Cassandra: *squinting at April's book* You got that from her chicken stratch? Varric: *patron saint of bullshitting* You are trying to read it upside down, Seeker. Leave Herald-translation to us.
Like sure, they probably won't get full mages or templars that way but they'd get people who are capable of putting aside their differences for a common goal and maybe even find common ground, as Justinia had tried... aaaaaaand it give Coryphius a more cobbled army that spends half of their time fighting with the other half of the army.
I'm really hoping April develops strong friendships with all the companions, even the difficult ones. Like I love Vivienne even though she's understandably not popular, maybe she ends up helping April communicate through body language since thats probably a better survival skill when playing the game.
I just realized she hasn't been introduced to a Qunari yet. Please please tell me she calls Iron Bull a giant tailless teifling until they finally tell her what he is April: Why are we here in this miserable wet place-- Iron Bull: Hello-- April: OH MY GOD IT'S A TEIFLING! AM I NEAR BALDUR'S GATE?! Bull: ... what is this strange little human doing and why is she pointing at me yelling "teethling"?
Okay, I'm going to stop before I somehow implode from how much I love this story. Thank you for the chapter!
I already have written her introduction with Viv, I think you might like it. As for the world state, I'll be slowly hinting and introducing that as well as she learns more about the world.
As hard as it is to write sometimes, I do love to imagine the other characters reactions to a herald that can't communicate and them playing charades to try to figure it out.
Don't worry about the templar v mages, I have a plan, sort of.
I've written out some other stuffs I just gotta make sure it works.
Both of them might not be a bad idea, but it might be hard to implement with her communication issue. So we shall see!!
