So thanks for the brief moment of levity we got at the very beginning, I’m sure it was the last time for a while that we feel light-hearted while reading this, but I was giggling while Thomas got kicked out. Maybe this is arrogance but I do believe that I can get through any amount of pain if it ends with Thomas and Newt together and alive. If this fic gets to like 300,000 words and they are just finally holding hands I’ll be pleased, because I’m of the mindset that we should bring back pining. Like yearning is soooooo in and sexy, give me forced proximity and bonds forged in shared traumatic circumstances, I’m fine with waiting babes.
The savior complex is COMPLEXING. I’m sad but not surprised about Brenda’s fate, but yeah maybe you should question why you feel so deeply about the death of someone you just met and why you are putting that blame on yourself already. And telling Chuck he will be okay if he just runs fast enough, Thomas isn’t saying that to make Chuck feel better he’s saying it for his own sake, but nothing is crueler than giving someone false hope, especially when most everyone is about to die UGHHHH.
I was really interested to see what Thomas’s gut reaction would be when finally in the arena, and it’s so interesting he couldn’t work up the nerve to kill anyone until his own life was immediately at risk. Like Aris was right, it’s not good that Thomas was not able to kill anyone and was acting weird, but unlike Thomas he doesn’t have this weird knack of everyone being endeared to him so woopsie! I’m wondering how Thomas will react to what he did (I’m giving BOMBASTIC side eye at the insanity tag).

Also why is Dan giving me…vibes…like listen he’s a psycho sure, but why does it read like he was REALLY into how Thomas killed Aris, IDK AM I CRAZY??? AM I GOING TOO FAR????? Maybe it’s the flirting they did before but it feels charged between them for some reason, and I have to wonder why Dan, who genuinely enjoyed killing people, would be siding with Thomas over Aris in that showdown. Hot take but I think everyone clocked it, but Teresa would never kill Thomas and Dan wants that cookie so effing bad so Mara also ignored it.
