WHEW got to the end of this one today and it was hottt!!!
First of all, I loved the little mention of 'poison or not' game bc 1) i think thats hilarious and fledgeling Rook wouldve been so annoying with it and 2) its such a big challenge for viago to act or not. In this context, it just adds a bit of familiarity to their relationship, a little bit of history. Calling her 'idiot' is a classic.
Loved this line in particular: Viago's hand is there before it can shatter, plucking it from her fingers with the same effortless ease with which he has always handled her mistakes. - it just again highlights how long and how well they know each other. and that Viago is always a step or two ahead.
Also the possessiveness of this line/s was super hot: "You were never meant to be his," Viago says, looking into her eyes, "never his wife. Never another house's prize." He thrusts deeper, curling his fingers. "You were always mine. From the moment you walked into House de Riva." - Viago does strike me as a Talon who really is quite possessive and proud of his House and every Crow in it. Especiallyyyyy Rook 👀 Think if she ever married into another House he'd be rather miffed.
The way you highlighted the fact these two are sort of risking everything, this fragile peace/comfort of both their lives for his ambition makes this night all the more intoxicating. Theyre on the precipice of something big, and something they wont be able to turn away from. His promise to show her one day, that she can stand unashamedly by his side 🥹 doubtless a lot of bloodshed involved, but he'll do it.
Again, you always make Viago so cool and hot and effortlessly charismatic. I believe him!!!!
Beautiful end to the story!! Thank you for writing and sharing!
The poison or not game was a last-minute addition but so fun to envision (I originally had her just stealing the wine)! Rook would've been an absolute menace about it and to re-enact that again with Viago was her giving him the green light in a way only they understand.
And yes haha I'm glad you liked those lines! I def have a whole backstory for these two- Rook changing her name and marrying Lucanis was kind of a challenge to Viago, a way to get under his skin. She knew it would needle him and he basically admitted it right there!
The risk of it all is something that’s always lurking between them, so I’m really glad that came through. They both know how dangerous this is, how much it could cost them, and they do it anyway. The whole night is teetering on the edge of ambition and inevitability. And that promise from Viago!! Rook knows he’s a man of his word.
Thank you so much for reading and for the lovely comment! I loved writing suave, composed, secretly-wrecked Viago 🥰
