You finished Draco's sentence correctly. As troubled as his feelings about his father are nowadays, there is still some respect left. 😆
Fred and George absolutely have a product to eavesdrop! "Extendable ears" was it, I think. But the house-elves would never use those, of course. ^^
Yeah, getting as close as sharing a bench was still a bit much for Charlie here. But he's there! And he's talking! Small steppies and all of that. 😁 I think you really expected a bit too much too fast from Charlie. He's not as desperate for somebody to understand him as Draco is; he has a loving family and real friends he can talk to, and he doesn't have any worries about being open either. That's why I imagined he can very clearly communicate his expectations and boundaries, too, and isn't afraid to share vulnerable moments with Draco. As chaotic as the Weasley family is, I think Bill and Charlie turned out very level-headed and at peace with themselves. They know who they are and what their strengths are, they're not afraid to show their emotions... I think things became more complicated only when Percy was born, because I'm sure Bill and Charlie had a lot of fun making trouble, too, and dealing with three children at once feels like a situation in which one can easily come up short. Sadly, that was Percy, and the arrival of Fred and George didn't improve things for him in the slightest. But I think Bill and Charlie always had each other and were very close. Or they just have strong personalities. Anyway, both of them always seemed to be very determined about their lives and what they want to do, not quarrelling, not searching for recognition, and yet fine with returning home now and then, knowing that they will be welcome no matter how much Molly might have been nagging them about their jobs. Draco, on the other hand, has to keep his true thoughts and emotions hidden most of the time, one wrong step can blow up his relationship with his parents, and he doesn't have siblings he could turn to. For him, this opportunity has a bigger impact. But as you saw, Charlie warmed up to the whole thing, too, in the end. 😊
Yes, whenever I write a soulmate AU, platonic bonds are usually a thing. I just can't imagine that soulmates always have to be romantic partners, feeling so deeply connected to someone happens in different ways. And I particularly like the thought of siblings bonding occasionally. In my other soulmate AU, it was Bill and Charlie, which, for obvious reasons, didn't work here, so I decided to throw in the tragic story of Narcissa and Andromeda being soulmates. I also like the thought of them reconnecting after Draco came clean about his bond with Charlie. Lol, yes, I assume the whole set-up for them is a bit unusual here. 😆 But I always got the impression that Draco actually wanted to follow the expectations his family was putting on him. I think he's proud of being a Malfoy, prior to the war more than after it, but I think he still wanted to keep the family alive and going. So, I knew from the start that he would marry someone else, and their relationship being an asexual one helped tremendously in realising that. 😊
When Charlie said, "I’m rather disinterested in sharing anything of this with other people," he meant the details about Draco's life and his family, by the way, not necessarily their soulmate bond. Charlie doesn't strike me as a person to chitchat, I see him as someone who won't remember what you told him if it wasn't relevant to him because he was thinking about dragons again. 😂 So the idea of him approaching somebody to tell him Narcissa has a soulmate and it's her sister does not feel like something he would do. Thinking about it, I can absolutely see him at a family event a couple of years down the road, casually dropping something like, "Oh, yeah, I have a soulmate, it's Draco Malfoy" in front of one of his siblings, only to turn around and leave without telling anything more or even waiting for any questions in return. 😂 But all of that is coming from someone who isn't married. Somebody as close as that he would absolutely tell about the whole thing, so Draco considering not telling Astoria doesn't sit right with him.
Ahaha, yes! The dragon reserve does need rules! And I bet at least five of them were added because of Charlie. 🤣
