If I had to look for an explanation, I would say it has to do with N's programming: originally, he was supposed to serve humans as a butler and ensure their well-being. So he must still have some of his old primary directive left in him, more so than the others, which would explain why the fate of humanity bothers him so much.
But that's just my own view of it. Everyone is free to interpret things in their own way ^^
