‘1, 2, 3.’ They chant in unison, tapping their shot glasses on the table before tipping them back and downing them.
Kie laughs as she looks over at Sarah, her stupid fake tiara askew on her head as dribbles of tequila coat her chin, already she can tell she’s going to be carrying her best friend home tonight. But hey, it’s her bachelorette party and if Sarah wants to get messy drunk and watch a strip show then she can get messy drunk and watch a strip show.
‘Woo hoo!’ Sarah yells out over the ambient pop music and muffled sound of the talking crowd.
Beside her Cleo laughs, ‘Calm down, girl.’
‘No I won’t calm down. Because I-‘ she flips her pink feather boa over her shoulder for emphasis. ‘Am getting married.’
‘Oh you are? Wow, how could I have forgotten that.’

Sarah’s bachelorette party takes a turn Kie’s not expecting when she runs into an all too familiar face. Not that she’s complaining..

They don’t end up rolling in dough. They don’t end up with any gold at all, after all that. All the sacrifice and heartache is for nothings but on days Kie wants to look on the brighter side of things she’s thankful for that stupid godforsaken gold hunt, it brought them altogether, not that she ever would have thought they needed it. But that bond was solidified over that time and it turned into something truly unbreakable. The six of them, no matter how much time or distance comes between them, they are each other’s people for life.
And then there’s JJ, who she thinks might just be her person.

Summary
A body flops down next to her in such spectacularly dramatic fashion that Kie knows it can only be one person before she even looks to her side and sees her best friend there pouting as if life isn’t fair and he’s not in the middle of a frat party supposed to be having fun.
‘My heart is broken.’ John B whines, smooshing his face into her shoulder in distress.
Kie tries not to laugh but it’s kinda hard when he’s being this ridiculous. ‘Oh baby.’ She responds, only slightly condescending as she brings up a hand to pat at his hair.
John B pulls away and gives her his best puppy dog eyes, which she’s got to admit, are very good.
‘She has a boyfriend.’
Kie raises an eyebrow at him. ‘Who?’
‘Sarah.’ He states, like it’s obvious.

The plan was simple. Distract Sarah Cameron’s new boyfriend so John B has a chance to talk to her. Liking Sarah Cameron’s new boyfriend was not part of the plan. Neither was making out with him.
