Summary
The photo comes through on Patrick’s screen almost immediately. Patrick’s breath catches in his throat. It’s grainy and overexposed which is always expected of Pete’s shitty Sidekick camera, and the edge of Joe’s hair blurs out where the breeze plays with the outermost curls. Joe squints at the camera against the sunlight in his eyes, dark lashes falling over pale cheeks. It looks almost childish, in a way, juvenile in an innocent childhood film camera family photo album sort of way. And then Patrick spots it. There, to the side of Joe’s slightly open mouth, just underneath his lip sits a shiny silver stud.
