Booker scowls at him. “You know why.”
Nicky tenses in his lap at Booker’s glare. His voice goes silky, dangerous. “Careful, Sébastien.”
“Fuck off, Nicolò.” Joe can’t see Nicky’s expression but whatever it is has Booker pale slightly before he turns back to Joe. “He’s on your leash. You let him go, and what’s worse is you like it.”
Joe is old enough and secure enough to know that Booker isn’t entirely wrong, which means he can do nothing but shrug. He cards a hand through Nicky’s hair, and Nicky pushes up into the touch.
“He can’t help it, Book.”
