Summary
“I didn’t think you’d come,” Peter finally whispers, and Peter doesn’t mean to say it—doesn’t even remember thinking it—but it’s the truth nonetheless.
A wave of hurt flashes over Erik’s eyes. “Why wouldn’t I?”
Peter opens his mouth, but for once can’t really find anything to say. Why was Erik acting like this? Peter had said such cruel things and now he was acting as if nothing had happened.
“I thought… I thought you hated me.”
Peter and Erik get into a fight.

Summary
Who is he kidding, really? He’s sixteen now, he doesn’t need anyone fawning over him like a kicked puppy.
But then Erik enters the room, and he doesn’t even hesitate before kneeling down and placing a firm hand on Peter’s back.
“You don’t have to be here,” Peter breathes, his voice uncharacteristically shaky.
But Erik doesn’t leave. “I’m not going anywhere, son.”
Or, Peter is sick and Erik just really wishes his son would let him take care of him.

Summary
Charles goes still in surprise as Peter squints his eyes closed, as if he’s using every last bit of energy to speak. “I want my dad.”
Charles’ heart nearly breaks at the admission, at the way Peter sinks into his pillow in hurt and longing.
“I know, Peter," Charles replies gently. “He’s coming. He’ll be here soon.”
