Summary
“Did someone…die?” Eddie asked.
Jimmy, carrying a very tiny box and placing it next to a tray of homemade brownies, paused mid-step. “Did you not know, Your Grace?”
Eddie’s dread expanded exponentially. “Know what, exactly?”
“What day it is?” When Eddie didn’t answer, Jimmy actually paled. It was tough to see under all the ultraviolets, but his eyes suddenly seemed huge and his skin had a touch of grey. “Oh, God. I’m so sorry, Your Grace. You truly don’t know.”
“Know what, Jimmy?” The sinking feeling in Eddie’s gut told him what Jimmy wouldn’t say. He just wanted to be wrong. He hoped, fervently, that he was wrong. “What day is it, Jimmy?”
He heard the click of a bootheel behind him. “It’s my fucking birthday,” Susie growled.

Summary
“There is, however, one model, which describes many-body relaxation dynamics, albeit in an incomplete way: the Coupling Model.”
Eddie drew back and gave her a deeply sceptical glance. “The Coupling Model.”
Susie nodded solemnly. “The Coupling Model.”
Again, he peered at her over his lenses. “So if I search the Coupling Model, I’ll find a mathematical model that describes, among other things, how to predict the melting point of glass.”

Visitors and staffers at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children got an eyeful of the Duke of Halstead, Edward Horniman, and his companion, Susan Glass, daughter of convicted drug lord and tax cheat Robert “Bobby” Glass, and manager of the trendy Glassknuckle boxing gym in Shoreditch. The pair seemed quite cosy in the waiting room at the hospital’s maternity ward, where it’s rumoured that the Duke of Halstead’s sister is having a baby. Miss Glass’s brother, boxer Jack Glass, is currently being treated for acquired brain injury at the adjoining National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery-

Summary
Eddie smiled fondly. “And if you’re very good, and do everything the doctor orders, I’ll find you a puppy.”
“A puppy?” Susie loathed how thrilled she sounded. “No one’s ever got me one of those. Dad wouldn’t let us have them.”
“Never?”
“Never. One of Mum’s ex-boyfriends killed Dad’s dog and stuffed it in the boot of his car.”
“Jesus.” Eddie kissed her cheek. His lips remained there on her skin and she felt his eyelashes moving, as he plotted. “Guess I’d better get you two puppies, then. Maybe even three. One for each decade you went without.”
“Oh…” She couldn’t stop smiling. Perhaps it was the ketamine. “I can’t be scared of dogs after having three puppies, can I?”
“Precisely.” He kissed her cheek. “How could Persephone ever be frightened of Cerberus?”
