Summary
When Anaxa begins to turn, Mydeimos blurts out, “Why are you doing all of this?”
Anaxa looks back. Sunbright eyes stare at him with a mixture of emotions he can’t place. For a moment, he lets the tension linger—then, he says simply, “Why not?”
Every century, a new Heir of Strife is born, foretelling of brutal bloodshed brought on by a soul lost to grief. But what young Anaxa finds is not a vessel for destruction, but a boy with bright eyes unbefit for Strife.
As they grow closer, he realizes: he can’t let this cycle continue. There needs to be a way to end this.

“I know you don’t want to hear this, Professor Anaxa, but having a heat partner does help speed things up if that’s your concern,” Hyacine says, her hands folded in front of herself.
“That is out of the question,” Anaxa replies simply. He does not appreciate the way Mydei’s face had appeared in his mind.
