The clanging of swords and armor pulled Allura’s nose from between the pages of her spellbook. As was their usual morning ritual, Sirus, Dohla, and Kima were sparring on the other side of the clearing. Although the noise suggested it was a battle to the death and not a playful training session.
At first, the dull metallic ringing had bothered Allura. It made it impossible to memorize any of her glyphs or incantations. But as time passed, she had gotten more and more used to it, so it rarely distracted her nowadays. Rarely.
It was the middle of summer and even in the early morning and shade of the forest, the temperature was climbing rapidly. All three fighters had forgone their armor and were only wearing thin—and often sleeveless—shirts.
