Japan. Spring 2008.
Love optimist, Hamburg-resident Eren Yeager, a high-school dropout with nothing but a one-way ticket and a bed at his brother's, lands in Yokohama with no plan for what comes next. No diploma, no plan, just a gnawing need to prove that he can be more than the worst thing he'd done– being a failure.
Book lover, Mikasa Ackerman knows what she's meant to do with her life. She doesn't want to stay in Yokohama longer than she needs to. But she's too afraid to choose, too cynical to love, and doesn't know the answers to what comes next, either.
