Summary
All it took was a throwaway comment spoken in jest; a conversation he wasn't meant to overhear. A single moment in time, where one indiscrete whisper was caught by its subject and somehow turned the whole world on its axis.
In which Meng Yao is forced to confront a long-buried, almost-forgotten truth about himself, and finds himself at a crossroads.
In one universe, he decides to continue focusing on his eventual goal of earning Jin GuangShan's approval, and pushes his realization away; pretends he never heard it and does his best to forget. In that world, events played out as in Canon.
In this universe, he remembers that his mother once urged him to accept and embrace himself as soon as it was safe enough for him; so he chooses to be true to himself instead. This changes things.
