His eyes are so heavy. Avid can't open them no matter how hard he tries, it's like someone put two bags of rocks over his eyelids and he can't move them under all that weight. The solid arm wrapped around his waist is just as heavy and he feels so cozy and comfortable Avid doesn't really want to get up. Sleeping for a few centuries sounds so wonderful right now.

The hullabaloo circus is forced to make a emergency stop at a rundown town called oakhurst, Mike shows interested exploring the rundown town and meeting the people staying there but eventually he and a few of his fellow circus members discovered some not so good things about some of the people living there.

Can the newcomers trust these people who are intertwined in their returning memories and who seem overly invested in their lives? Can the vampires escape Oakhurst without losing anyone else? And what the hell happened to Avid?

Summary
Every year, Scott and Shelby are incessant on throwing—whatever the hell they decide to call it now. A reunion type party between all the people who stumbled into the dreadful town of Oakhurst 2 centuries ago. Owen thinks the event is ridiculous, the fact they throw it annually only adds to the statement. Their vampires, a year to them is equivalent to a long month.
However, Legundo always seems to enjoy the gathering. Even if some years he’s spent bitterly bickering with Scott for a majority of the party, he always comes back every year. And always drags Owen along with him like a wet cat showing defiance towards a visit to the doctors. Huh, that was oddly fitting.
The date of it always manages to creep up on Owen until it’s too late for him to come up with some twisted excuse not to go. Not like anyone would buy anything he said, he would still be brought to the event no matter what.

But Oakhurst really was their only hope at a place that didn’t know about them, about the curse that shrouded the two that had lived in a tiny shack that served on purpose.
Though that purpose had been hypocritical in the end.
What with Elle being bitten by the same thing that had scratched Avid. Though for whatever reason Elle’s situation spread far faster than Avid’s, Avid who had been living deemed as “sick” since he was a child.
He wasn’t sick, just… Changing

Avid was not happy. Quite the opposite, but in the way that pure untampered anxiety clutched at the fibers of his very being. He was terrified. And as he should be, standing on the other side of the bridge that led to the Goldsmith manor. This was quite possibly the worst thing to happen to him, right alongside the scratch that was burning his neck at that very moment. Fear had its claws wrapped around Avid and he had no way out.
The “Agreement” was a set of terms alongside the manor of vampires and the townsfolk of Oakhurst. The Goldsmith Coven protected the valley and didn’t kill but in exchange humans got sent to the manor to work. Everyone knew that entailed being drank from even though it was not stated.
Curse Avid’s never ending bad luck as he had drawn the short straw. Living in Oakhurst as a sick man was bad enough, being sent to what was essentially the slaughter…

They can't escape the death trap of Oakhurst unless... they get rid of the vampires... Vampires? Did they hear that right?

Don't worry folks! There's vampires, there is death, but also a bunch of romance and some stalking happening here in Oakhurst. It takes Ivorie Kollins to mess up a bunch before she can leave! And can the others leave too? Will romance be doomed in Oakhurst? Can people be saved?
Abolish sits in the corner, "It's doomed."
Pearl glares at the guys and smiles, "Don't worry Reader, there's a chance we can all make it out alive!"

Avid’s throat felt raw from screaming, though he hadn’t been, not anymore, at least. His heart still felt as if it was home to a wooden stake. He felt the aching hunger, body still thinking he was dead, still thinking he needed to be healed.
But he didn’t.
Because he was alive. Avid was alive and he didn’t know how. He knew he was still a vampire, he could feel it in his very being, could feel the desperate hunger as if he’d never been satiated by a single drop of blood. But he was just outside of Oakhurst. An Oakhurst that was empty.
Empty and as though no one had ever stood foot in there, no sign of the people that had come to Oakhurst at the same moment as Avid.

Avid didn't know who he was. They tell him he believed in vampires, would shout it from the rooftops when he could, but he doesn't remember that. He can't remember anything, and this person they're describing, he isn't sure he likes it. Still, with chronic pain from a wound in his neck and the growing threat of vampires -- who are apparently real, by the way -- he'll need to figure out where he stands, so that maybe, hopefully, he can make it out of this alive.
