Summary

Inspired by a soulmate short fic, this is one of my darker stories. It explores the different types of soulmates (platonic, familial, romantic, etc) as well as what happens when a soulbond is rejected. But more importantly, what happens when it turns abusive. Because I could not see a happy little concept and let it just be pretty...
In truth, this is at times an unpleasant story.
General Summary: Like all those gifted with a soulmark, Marco had dreamed of meeting his soulmate. But Kaidu was uninterested in acknowledging a social inferior as his other half. At first he had thought the pain of a rejected soul bond was the worst pain he could experience. However, upon being captured and detained by Kaidu he learned that there were worse fates.
Now, several years into his captivity, Marco is once again able to reunite with his friends. Will they be able to rescue him from what fate decreed? -

She is six and standing in front of her mother's grave, dry-eyed because she's cried all her tears the days before, her hand held tightly by one of her aunts. Her grandparents didn't come, neither did her mother's brothers and not even all of her sisters are here. They are a small collection of grieving, crying people, and nobody really bothers consoling the six-year-old girl who still believes her father might suddenly turn up, swoop her in a hug and take her away from her pain like the mythical hero her mother always made him out to be.

Marcella still loses her mother and doesn't know her father all her childhood, she still has a talent for languages and words. But she is a girl, and this world is seen and experienced different by girls than by boys, and so Marcella sees and understands different things than the son she would have been in another world.
