Destiny plays a cruel game with us. It lets us hope, lets us believe we are in control, just for things to end the way we knew they would anyways. But sometimes, to it’s very favorites, destiny will be kind. One of those favorites is Merlin. And what if this time it will actually end differently? What if this time he would find a way to show Morgana that violence was not the only option? What if this time, he could help Mordred not loose his loyalty. What if this time he could be honest with this man earlier on? Share his secret with him and show what magic can also be. Show him the beauty and peace it can bring. And what if this time he could build the courage to tell Arthur how he truly felt, before it will be too late again? If he could do all those things, could the ending truly be changed? Could he watch Arthur be the king he was destined to be instead of watching the love of his life die in his arms without him ever truly knowing what he meant for the young warlock? Merlin wasn’t sure. Anything he had ever done to try and change the cause of events had led to the exact situations he tried to avoid. But if destiny gives you a chance like this, you use it. Arthur is angry when he learns that he is born of magic and that his Father sacrificed his Mother so he could have an heir. In this version of events, Merlin doesn't tell Arthur that Morgause lied to him. Arthur must confront his Father and face Camelot's history of discriminatory anti-magic policies head on, including his own role in them. All while he feels himself slowly drawn closer and closer to his manservant Merlin.
Meanwhile, Merlin must continue to keep his magic secret and work in the shadows for the better future with Arthur he's been promised is his destiny.

Unbeknownst to Gaius, Hunith and Balinor fall in love and become with child. That child- is Merlin.

One night, however, the sorceress receives a prophecy. A prophecy that changes the course of everyone's life, but it's not like Merlin hadn't changed that already. The dragonlord was never supposed to help Morgana; he had strayed from his way, and now, The Gods were furious. They didn't, however, punish him; no, they just changed his destiny to one he can't escape.

Merlin is the worst manservant Arthur has ever had. He’s always late, constantly forgets his breakfast, and can’t clean a room to save his life.
He’s the bravest person Arthur has ever known.
When Merlin saves his life (again) and Uther forbids Arthur from returning the favour, everything Arthur has been taught starts to feel wrong. Cruel, even.
One day, he wants to be a better king. A fairer one. To do that, he’ll have to start questioning his father’s beliefs—about loyalty, about magic, and about what (and who) truly matters.
If that means keeping a closer eye on Merlin without being noticed, so be it.
My personal version of the story in which Arthur knows something doesn’t add up and begins to piece it all together when he hears Merlin cast a spell and kill the griffin. Arthur's not stupid, no one will convince me otherwise -

When Uther pulls him away and bans Merlin from ever coming near his son again, Merlin knows they are destined to be friends.
The boys keep their friendship hidden from the public and grow up together, learning from each other in ways no one else could understand. It was all running smoothly… until Merlin had to save his life using magic, and accidentally cementing his place as Arthur’s manservant. Now the boys have to hide that they even know each other, Merlin’s magic, and any other feelings that may get in the way as they try to guide Camelot into a golden age.OR
Merlin and Arthur meet as boys and grow up together as mates secretly. Eventually Arthur realises that feeling the way he does about Merlin isn’t how a friend should feel and Merlin is obviously clueless. They’re both clumsy idiots and apparently, stupid boys.
