The arm she loops around his neck is unusually muscular. Her nails are sharp.

Benvolio thinking about dead people a lot. Also just... like i had a dream about the families being like "see, these people totally died for as, we lost such an important part of our family or a friend" about the duel between Mercutio and Tybalt, even though they don't care about them, and i just wrote this. But mostly it's Ben suffering, because that's what this character is best at. I wrote this with the 2021 Toho version of the musical in mind, but honestly it's not that important. Im sorry, im terrible at writing the summery, it turnes out.

Inspired by the infamous line from the French revival where Mercutio asks Tybalt whether he's ever slept with an older man, aka "Mercutio's words come back to bite him."
"Anyway, speaking of that, did you see Tybalt's face when I asked him about whether he'd ever fucked an older man, though? Could you believe it? For such a self-proclaimed ladies' man, he sure does have a prudish streak, doesn't he?"
"Not everyone sleeps with older men, Mercutio." Romeo rolled his eyes, not without a trace of affection.
"Don't knock it until you've tried it, that's what I say. You and Benvolio could take a couple of lessons from me."
Benvolio froze, eyes going wide like a deer caught in the headlights.
And Mercutio, unfortunately, caught it instantly.

“Are you?” Benvolio replies.
And the truth is that he barely remembers what happiness is, much less what it feels like. Happiness is for the young, and for old men…duty. It is the first, chief area where Lord Capulet had failed, chasing after his ill-spent youth and forgetting his own household. Escalus learned, early on, that that was an impossibility, not when he had a city looking to him for guidance.
“I’m not certain I was meant for happiness.” He smiles, politely.
For almost anyone else, it would be enough, but Benvolio continues to look at him skeptically, before looking into his own mug. “Neither am I.”

“Behold that sleazy dram beast!” Mercutio snarled, hissing at a skimpy black cat wandering in the hot streets of Verona, his little tongue hanging out as it desperately craved some water.
“Po’r thing!” Benvolio quickly ran to the little cat, letting it smell his fingers to try and gain its trust.
“Bid not me, thee pity such beasts too, Benvolio?” Mercutio rolled his eyes. “Let it be, it belike hast the plague.”
“T's just thirsty.” Benvolio gently lifted the little dirty cat, carefully placing it in his arms like a mother would do with her newborn child. “Look, t’s harmless.”[Or just Benvolio being a Disney princess, he loves animals, animals love him and Mercutio is just so in love he's embarassing. Inspired by this quote by Mercutio talking about Benvolio in act 3 scene 1: "Thou hast quarreled with a man for coughing in the street because he hath wakened thy dog that hath lain asleep in the sun."
