Summary
Forming a sentence is a rather hard job since you need to order the words coherently and each one of them has their purpose. However, a sentence cannot exist without the presence of a verb but even though the verb is the most important word in the sentence, the Subject is always in the center of attention. At least coming from Copula's point of view.
Copula isn't any ordinary verb, he needs to bond with another word, either a noun or an adjective to form the predicate nominative. He isn't a fan of that idea, but he has no other choice.A story about the secret connection between the linking verb and the subject that no teacher tells you about.
