Summary
For sixteen long-ass years, I have believed that I was the sole surviving creation from one of Draxum’s greatest failed experiments. At least, that’s what Pops had always told me.
Now color me surprised, when I found out that there are three other turtle mutants and they have lived in the upper human city, all this time.
This revelation is just the beginning of my story. It’s one full of chaos, explosions, existential dread, pizza, parental issues, drinks, double-triple betrayals, and generally bad life choices that make me question where I fit into this world. Maybe there’s a great destiny waiting for me out there, or maybe I'll get myself killed while I’m still figuring it all out. At least, it seems I’ve found a new place I can call home, and that counts for something... right?
(This fic is loosely inspired by AU designs by Shanzepoo on Twitter and a few scrapped concepts for seasons 1 and 2 of the series)

A cool fun fact about box turtles is that they are one of the most freeze-resistant animals alive. See, when they get too cold, their bodies have this amazing defense mechanism that diverts their blood to their core to keep them alive. Super unfortunate for the Hamato family’s blood pressure, because in severely cold environments a box turtle’s heart will actually stop beating. Fascinating right?
It would be soooo fascinating, in Leo’s humble opinion, if they had known about it before finding Mikey dead on the floor of a freezer.or, box turtles can literally have 80 percent of their bodily fluids frozen and LIVE. what the fuck.

Leos Herz zog sich für einen Augenblick zusammen, als ihn die Erkenntnisse durchfuhr, dass Adam in seinem Leben irgendwann wohl Mechanismen entwickelt haben musste, um einen besseren Schlaf zu bekommen. Vielleicht war auch der Eindruck eines Nests aus Kissen und Gewichtsdecke nicht ganz abwegig für jemanden wie Adam, dem viel zu früh die elterliche Geborgenheit genommen worden war und der sich dieses Gefühl nun auf anderen Wegen suchte. Leo wollte in dem Moment nichts lieber, als zu Adam zu gehen und ihn in den Arm zu nehmen, vielleicht auch, um ihn nie wieder loszulassen.
Leo sieht nach einiger Zeit den Betonbunker wieder von Innen und ist über Adams Art der Traumabewältigung überrascht. Aber wer wäre er, sich darüber auszulassen, wenn der Abend die langersehnte Wende in ihrer Beziehung verspricht?
