“You like my eyes,” Faye repeats with a lopsided smirk. She slings her arms over Welly’s shoulders, crosses them loosely at Welly’s back. “You think I’m pretty?”
Welly’s heartbeat thunders wildly. Faye’s white hair catches the sunshine, turns it almost translucent like spun sugar. Their faces are close enough that Welly can feel the heat of Faye’s breath on her lips.
“I… I…” Welly stammers. She wants to rest her hands on the enticing dips of Faye’s waist. Instead she presses her hands firmly to the ground at her sides, and tries to find her tongue. “Of—of course, milady. You’re…truly a sight to behold.”
How Welly imagines things might have gone with Faye.

The hand in her hair shifts again, this time turning her face up until she's looking its owner in the eyes.
"No one is like us," says her stupid, egotistical, god-complex girl-friend, in what Maya assumes has to be the most egregious and most touching display of Missing The Point in all of human history.
