“You’re new,” a low, Scouse-y voice piped up from the entrance.
A craggy, impish looking thing with big blue eyes, a pale face, and dark brown hair crept into the room, a book in one hand and a Granny Smith apple in the other. He stood in place and stared at Felix, a small smile playing at his lips. He was outfitted the same as everyone else, but unlike the others, he had mismatched slippers — one white, one black.
Felix blinked, understanding that the man was talking to him.
“Oh, no,” Felix said quickly, waving his right hand. “I’m not a patient.”
“No? Then what’re you doin’ here?”
Embarrassed, Felix just shrugged.
“Ah, I see,” the man said, amusement in his voice. “A charitable donor,” he whispered, fracturing the word with a sing-song-like quality as he bit into his apple. “How interestin’.”
