Summary
To his left, Akira hears the thump-thump of a stumble and a sharp inhale. He chances a glance over his shoulder, hardly daring to take his eyes off the enemy. Akechi has retreated a few paces and is doubled over, face obscured by the helm of his mask. His arms hang limply at his sides, claws unmoving. He looks, for lack of a better word, defenceless. The sight makes Akira’s stomach clench, dread washing over him in an icy wave.
Akechi’s quivering shoulders are a telltale sign of a status ailment. Shit. The realisation hits him when Akechi gasps, backing away from the shadow with unsteady steps. He’s afflicted with fear.
An account of how two status ailments lead to a confession, a kiss and a cast of horrified Phantom Thieves, permanently scarred by the discovery of Akira and Akechi’s mutual attraction - not necessarily in that order.

Summary
Goro pads forward, telegraphing his movements as much as he can, and, when Akira doesn’t stop him, wraps his arms around Akira’s waist from behind.
“Don’t worry about that,” Goro says into Akira’s shoulder.
Akira’s pace stutters, knife pausing right over the taught red flesh of the tomato. “Let me take care of you,” he responds softly.
Goro tightens his grip, pressing his chest to Akira’s back. “You always do.”
“I—”
“Let’s eat later, Akira.” Goro noses at the nape of Akira’s neck. “I need something else right now.”

Summary
The Phantom Thieves are famous throughout Japan for their seemingly impossible heists; banks, museums, corporate offices - no target is, apparently, too difficult for this crew, and they ghost past security measures like the specters they’ve taken as their namesake.
When Detective Goro Akechi lands the Phantom Thieves case, he’s sure that this will be the one that will get him the recognition he deserves. And when he gets his hands on their absolutely maddening leader, he's going to personally lock him up and throw away the key.
Getting caught isn't in Akira's plans at all, but he is nothing if not inventive. And anyway, any detective who can get that close to him is intriguing, despite the danger.
(Or perhaps, because of it.)

“I won’t back down,” Goro nods, more to himself than Akira. “But first, a warning: I’m not like you. Or like the other… people,” he spits out, like “people” is in quotation marks, “you dally with. There’s a high probability I won’t enjoy this at all.”
Yes, of course, you’re very special and different and you’re the toppiest top to ever top, Akira doesn’t say.
