Astarion is Desperate to escape Cazador. He's willing to anything. Even follow legends and myths to find the cursed Shadow Druid statue and free him. Well.. It sounded easy, but part of that meant... Finishing what the druid and his lover had started centuries ago.
Dear Gods, please don't let anyone come across him ah... *riding* the statue.
(Based on a dark romance fb ad I saw a long time ago about needing to break a petrification curse by having sex with the 'statue' and it stuck in my brain and refused to leave until this happened...)

Halsin's brow furrowed. “You look hungry.”
Fuck. Fuck. Was it that obvious? Astarion's reserves had run out five days ago, but that was hardly the longest he had gone without blood before. There had been times when he was fed a single rat over the span of a tenday, and he had still managed to pull himself together enough to bring victims back to Cazador.
He gathered his wits and threw on one of his more seductive masks. “My dear druid, I am always hungry, especially with someone as handsome as you around.” He gave Halsin a lingering once over, allowing appreciation and lust to show on his face as he did. The druid was handsome, that was true. Well-muscled but soft in all the right places, powerful but not overbearing, kind but with an animalistic streak that surely meant he was a freak in bed. Plenty for Astarion to work with.OR: Halsin offers Astarion his blood, and Astarion waits for the catch.

Summary
Raphael may not be a Planeswalker, but he does have means to occasionally travel between planes. He invites Astarion to a world the likes of which he is sure the vampire would adore. And perhaps, never want to leave. But he requires a special guest and sends Astarion to acquire one the way Cazador once did. He uses his own subtle machinations in hopes of securing an asset he's been planning to acquire.
Note: I don't think a reader unfamiliar with MtG or Innistrad should have much trouble reading this since you'd be experiencing it the same way as Astarion, if that is of any concern.
