   Summary

   They were very tentative, at first, with the interviews. A press conference here, a statement released there. All drafted and approved, made professional yet genuine sounding, in the way only trained liaisons could manage.

   It was perfect, because it had to be.

   Steve was Captain America, the shining, red-white-and-blue moral compass for the entirety of the United States of America. He was their fucking mascot, a household name, embodying a deep sense of patriotism that was engraved in every lunchbox, poster, and t-shirt that carried his name.

   A queer, socialist, second generation immigrant. As the mascot of America.
