Summary
Hallucinations greet Kakavasha in the place of his vision, on the bridge between his mind and his barren optic nerves. Visual and strange, like daytime dreams with no tether to the appearance of reality. Kakavasha sees his own face in these visions, abstract and inhuman. He sees his big sister, standing far in the distance from him, crouched on the ground but smearing away in an array of brand new colors that never existed when he was sighted.
What if Aventurine really did sell his eyes?
A canon divergent story that focuses on Aventurine through the events leading up to Penacony, his mission, and the bittersweet aftermath... and falling in love with his colleague, Dr. Ratio.

Summary
Aventurine runs his left hand through his hair in a futile attempt to calm his nerves, pacing back and forth in agitation. "But this is a hotel, and a high-end one at that. People pay to sleep here. Why would they jeopardize their reputation by offering a haunted hotel? It's absurd."
Ratio finally releases the door handle and starts descending the stairs. "If you have any complaints, you can take them up with management," Ratio suggests as he waits for Aventurine to follow.
Aventurine huffs. "Maybe I will."
Or:

Summary
“Damned Gambler, you came out alive, after all,” he said like he knew all along — like he hadn’t been panting in the hallways from running to find Aventurine and see for himself that he doesn’t have to live the next chapters of his life in excruciating grief.
“Surprised, are we? I told you I never lose a gamble, Doctor,” Aventurine said, a small smirk appearing in his lips. He kept up with his facade as always, but Veritas didn’t miss the hints of weariness he displayed. Bits of hair strands were strayed and unruly, which meant he hadn’t combed his hair properly prior to leaving his room. One button from his vest remained unattached and his wrists were empty, lacking the sparkly ornaments he wears regularly.
The lighting in the lobby was just bright enough for Veritas to notice the hints of darkness circling his dimmed eyes. He felt his heart sink against his chest.
Aventurine is avoiding him. Veritas yearns.

Summary
Aventurine had been a slave to the capitalist machine for far too long, and having successfully used the Penacony plot to escape it, then escape the dormancy within the dreamscape, all is well. Ratio is not as pleased with the situation, not knowing whether or not the gambler made it out alive at all. Luckily, Aventurine finds an interesting looking beetle and who better to ask for its name than the knowledgeable Doctor Ratio?
