Wally Darling knew was feelings were, objectively. And he knew he loved and cared for his neighbours so, so much. But at the same time, identifying his feelings was hard. More often than not he did not spend the energy attempting to understand them, letting the odd sensations come and go without voicing them.
So, when the odd sensations started to occur more frequently-- when they started to manifest, to grow, to bloom-- it wasn't much of a cause for concern. Maybe that was just a part of it. Maybe that was just how feelings worked. How friendship worked. How love worked.
And he believed as such, even as the flowers began ripping through his seams.

"What's wrong, buddy?" you whispered to the plant, gently rubbing one of the many stems. Of course, you didn't speak plant at all, so the lilac couldn't tell you. Sighing, you readjusted your sun hat and looked down at your gardening gloves. Maybe you should go in now and give either of your plant-inclined neighbours a ring. They wouldn't be mad at you for asking for help.Suddenly, you heard someone speak up from behind you.
"Your garden is lovely." they said in a flat, sarcastic-sounding tone.
