Sometimes, Padmé thought they must both be out of their minds.
They lashed out, tore open barely healed wounds, and savored the blood they drew. He called her a liar. Spat that she had betrayed him, that she had brought Obi-Wan there to kill him. As though he weren’t the one who had turned, as though he hadn’t crushed her throat in his rage and nearly killed her himself.
She screamed back, each word meant to wound. She wished, truly, that Obi-Wan had defeated him on Mustafar. She said it in the sweetest voice—if he had somehow lived, he would be left half-dead, trapped inside a shell of metal. She would die, and even then her soul would claw its way out of the grave to haunt him for the rest of his life, for killing her in his rage.
When he carried out the Emperor’s will, he was a beast; when the Emperor used her to tear into those who had once been her allies, she became one too. They fought like beasts. They fucked like beasts. In the extremes of pain and pleasure, they fed on each other’s hatred. They hated each other utterly. And they could never be apart.
In another universe, Anakin defeated Obi-Wan. Padmé survived.
