Summary
Ninety-seven years ago, a nuclear apocalypse rendered planet Earth unlivable, leaving only the four-hundred people on the twelve space stations as its survivors. Over three generations, these twelve nations joined together to form the unified Ark Station.
To preserve the human race, the leaders of the Ark implemented strict measures including: capital punishment for anyone over the age of eighteen, a ration system based on job placement, and the arrangement of marriages based on genetic compatibility. If the human race was to return to Earth, it had to be strong to survive.
Clarke Griffin turned eighteen and celebrated her birthday with a marriage ceremony.

Summary
Clarke is under a lot of pressure as the only presented omega in a group of 100 betas and unpresented alphas. Everyone is looking to her to lead and she is wholly unprepared. Combine that with the grounders that are slowly closing in on them with deadly intent and Clarke is certain that they are in a very bad position.
Things start to look up when Clarke runs into an alpha grounder who agrees to give her and her people a chance.

Summary
"Here." He thrusts one of the cups at her and she sets the rake aside to accept it. "You owe me a drink."
Clarke's answering smile is brighter than the moonlight, brighter than every shooting star he'd seen but hadn't let himself wish on while she'd been gone.
They settle on one of the walls bordering the fire pit and tap their cups together before drinking.
