    I found this little guy on my desktop yesterday, messing around with some stuff. He emailed himself (???!) to you afterwards. A few times, actually; there was an orange one here before as well. Do you know anything about this? I swear I'm not making this up, and I really need someone to tell me my PC is not haunted by the ghost of every childhood scribble that didn't make it to the refrigerator or whatever. The mystery is driving me insane.

    It’d been a month or so since…everything happened—and Sonic’s nightmares had shown no sign of granting him mercy. Sometimes he would jerk awake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, gasping for breath; other times, his eyes would snap open and he would be gripping his blankets with trembling hands, as if his body wanted to reach out and save Shadow.

    Today, he woke up feeling completely numb all over, his muzzle drenched from fresh tears. The morning sun was just barely rising over the horizon, streaks of light peeking through the circular window on the ceiling and bathing the floorboards of the attic in warm orange.

    How cruel was it that mornings were so beautiful when Shadow couldn’t be here to see it?

    OR: Shadow isn’t dead. Sonic just doesn’t realize it until he catches Shadow on the Wachowski’s security camera, sneaking into the house night after night.

    Shadow already dislikes being an omega, a presentation unbefitting of the Ultimate Lifeform, but his unique biology lends to his heat cycles being out of sync with all other hedgehogs. For years, he's toughed it out alone and just dealt with it, only trusting his secret with his dearest friend Rouge. But, of course, his awful luck would land him in a situation where all of that falls apart. An unexpected storm, a sudden heat and a few unfortunate situations leave him stranded in Rouge's vacation home with the last person he ever would have wanted to see him like this. There's no way he deserves any of this— not the shameful reveal, not the humiliating vulnerability, and certainly not the acceptance and kindness Sonic offers him.

    Age and circumstance have changed their dynamic, so maybe its time Sonic and Shadow reassess where they stand.
