Summary
When Will realizes that Hannibal is the Copycat Killer in Minnesota, he also realizes one other thing: pointing the finger at Hannibal without any evidence would get him nowhere. So, he keeps his mouth shut. As he mourns his friendship with Hannibal and tries to untangle his complicated feelings on the betrayal, he also starts to draw him closer, desperate for a motive behind the sick game he played with his life and for any evidence that real affection had existed between them at all. As Will's trial, and the real threat of the death penalty, draws nearer, he begins to realize that his fate may rest in his ability to convince Hannibal that he likes him better alive. And furthermore, if he survives this, that he has to decide what he wants to do with Hannibal afterwards.
Or, a season 2 rewrite fic where Will decides that earning Hannibal's trust and breaking it at an opportune time is much sweeter revenge than putting him in prison. That is, if he can avoid falling into his own trap.

Summary
Hannibal has his quirks. Daily their apartment was scrubbed from top to bottom with all the efficiency of a surgeon. All mail, even junk mail, was required to be in alphabetical order by date delivered. The refrigerator and pantry were similarly organized. Will was by no means allowed to help put away groceries.
Or, Will notices that Hannibal is not as put together as he seems.

Summary
Hannibal has oriented his life this way for as long as it has been his to direct. On a day to day basis, it’s entirely adequate. He does none of these things with the intention of distracting himself. The necessity of distraction, of escapism, implies there is something from which one must escape. He is not running. He runs from no one, least of all himself.
And yet there are rooms in his mind where he must not go. Doors that are closed on purpose, cordoned off with velvet ropes and papered over with everything he has become.
Hannibal is depressed. Will invites him over for dinner.
