Five months after the fall of the Organization and over a year since he learnt the truth behind Scotch's death, Furuya Rei can say with confidence that he still hates Akai Shuuichi from the very bottom of his heart.
He can also say with just as much confidence that the sky is lime green and the oceans, magenta.
Unfortunately, saying something with confidence doesn't make it true.

“You can shut the fuck up,” replies Rei, kicking him hard in the ankle. “You know perfectly well that this isn’t an in-law situation. There is absolutely no lawful aspect of this… this whatever-it-is.”

Summary
Half of him wishes Akai hadn’t been so clear. Wishes that Rei could still read into Akai’s soft smiles, his light touches, the way he invites him out to dinner and lets him settle in his arms.
But Akai had. He gripped Rei tight by the shoulders, pushed him back, and told him in no uncertain terms- Furuya-kun, I’d like to be friends this time.
So Rei won’t humiliate himself any further by reading into things that just aren’t there.
Not again.
Things would be far, far easier if Rei didn’t still miserably have feelings for a man who’s clearly moved on.
