Summary
Marsaili had watched the netherbrain plummet into the Chionthar just two days ago. Now, sitting on the remains of her home, she wondered where her life would go next.
This is a post-canon story where the main character was a bartender in Baldur's Gate before her home and business were destroyed by the Absolute. She meets and develops a friendship with Astarion, whom she had known as a loyal patron before he was abducted by the nautiloid. Freshly out of a relationship with Tav -who dumped him for someone not confined to the shadows- He's quite happy to spend his time with the charismatic and witty half-drow.

“Ah, so these contraptions do stay still. Very interesting to observe when it’s not actively trying to kill me,” Gale commented, circling Astarion’s car as if sizing it up. “These are carriages of some sort I presume? Electrical? No horses or magic needed?”
Astarion rummaged in his jacket pocket, producing keys. He slid his hand across the trunk, up the back, and slapped the roof. “Actually, this has about 120 horsepower, and this baby can fit so much existential dread.” Astarion smiled smugly at the meme reference Gale would neither understand nor appreciate.
“The power of 120 horses… That sounds absolutely terrifying.” Gale’s face turned pale, his cheeks beginning to match his shirt.
Astarion gets more than he bargained for when he wishes his life weren't so mundane. It seems the universe decided to grant his wish when it dropped off 'Gale of Waterdeep' from a literal portal in the side of a wall.
Will he be able to help the estranged wizard back to Faerun? With the enlisted help of someone an ocean away, he may.
