“Oh, Viktor,” Jayce murmured, mouth close against his neck. “You’re okay. You’re okay.”
“Jayce. What happened? What did you do to me?”
Jayce let go of his body, and took both of Viktor’s hands in his. “It’s… it’s a long story. Soon, I’ll explain it all, I promise. I discovered a spell to neutralize the hexcore, and could wield it through the hammer.”
Viktor hesitated. “Neutralize the hexcore? What does that mean?”
For better or for worse, Viktor was the hexcore now. The device had been dangerous on its own, far more than Viktor had first realized, but he had uncovered its true potential now they were fused together, allowing Viktor to wield all its potential. The hexcore’s magic was what allowed him to heal and evolve all those who came for his aid.
“I promised I’d destroy it, remember?”

"Hm?" Comes a still partly-distracted response.
Viktor makes a little sound partway between an exhale and a chuckle.
"I said," He begins again. "I believe that I ran into an old colleague of yours this morning."

But the mountains have a way of stretching out time and making space for things that don’t belong, and the more Viktor learns to live, the more he makes Jayce remember what he's spent years trying to forget.

Vi paced the length of the room with her chin pinched firmly between her fingers. She had been tracing a wide oval on the floor, her boots clanking heavily with every step. They had been over the plan several times already, Viktor lamented soundlessly, but he understood her nerves. Ekko, who was busy spinning himself in one of Viktor’s office chairs, slowed to a stop with an exaggerated groan, dragging the toe of his shoes along Viktor’s floor. “Vi, how many more times are you gonna make us—”
“Until it’s perfect, Ekko.” Vi interrupted brusquely. “Everyone needs to be on the same page about what they’re doing, where they’re supposed to be, and what we’re after. We’re not gonna get another shot at this for months if we fail.”

OR: The kids from Zaun have a plan—find whatever Jayce Talis has been working on and steal it. The Progress Day Gala is the perfect opportunity to do so. The only issue? Viktor has to attend to "present" his research to Heimerdinger. He should be in and out quickly—just long enough to get Vi into place and dip. Photo after photo slid out, of Jayce in soft, delicate color, caught mid-laugh, or feigning coyness with eyes that didn’t match the tension in his flexed arms. It was infuriating. Hypnotic. His head pounded, the pressure in his skull threatening to give him an aneurysm from the want thrumming through his veins.

That is, if they can get all the work done for it in time when Jayce is exhausted, overworked, and at risk of burning out entirely before they even make it there.
So when Jayce jokingly asks Viktor to take control and tell him what to do, in the hopes that it will help Jayce relax and get some much needed sleep before the competition, he was not expecting Viktor to so readily oblige. Nor was he expecting what happened after.

Viktor hums, thinking to himself for a moment before crowding into Jayce’s space again and kissing him hard.
Pulling back with a dazed look, Viktor's hands slide down the front of his chest until the warmth of his palms rest against Jayce's stomach.
“Lets just call it a fun summer break?”
Hired by his mother's friend to clean her pool during summer break, Jayce meets Viktor and the two get on like a match to fireworks. Throughout their fun, casual relationship, Jayce yearns to learn more about the whimsical boy who takes his breath away.
