Summary
"I said... Why do you do this," he speaks up this time, his voice is not so sure but still- "why do you act like you care? Like you... Like I am still your friend? I don't understand you Arthur. Last time I saw you, you didn't want to listen, you wanted me gone. So I was. What do you want now?" his voice is so drained so tired so- oh, Arthur truly hates himself that moment. All of his past anger and hurt rips away from his body in a flash. How could he do this? How could he push him away? How could he- It's Merlin for Gods' sake. He could put a sword in him and Arthur would be glad he died in Merlin's arms.
Or, after Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic, he does what he thinks to be right and banishes Merlin from Camelot.

Summary
Post Camlann, Arthur lives, and is wracked with guilt and grief. Merlin is still thinks Arthur is angry about the magic and the lies. Misunderstandings and heartache ensue.

xxArthur shook his head again, interrupting before Gwaine could break the flow of his speech, a little afraid that if he didn’t get it all out, he would never have the guts to. “I’m going to free him. After we find the fomorrah and kill it, I’m going to let him leave. Maybe he’ll go back to Ealdor, maybe somewhere else.”
Gwaine’s eyes were wide, “Surely, you’re not serious.”
Arthur squeezed his eyes shut. “You’ve always been his.” Gwaine looked a little like child who had been caught doing something he shouldn’t, but he said nothing while Arthur continued. “Your loyalty has always been to him. Can I ask you this one last thing? Go with him, wherever he goes, I can’t bear the thought of him being hurt.”
“He will be safe here,” Gwaine said, softly.
“But will he be happy?”

Instead, he suddenly comes face to face with himself from the future, who’s desperately looking for Merlin, and who has quite a story to tell.
