Summary
Horror strikes him down where he stands, then. He sways, stumbles to put his back to the living room wall. Harry is woozy in disbelief, watching the two words slashed into his chest in livid red just like the scar on his forehead. ‘AVADA KEDAVRA.’
He knows those words, the first he can remember, his earliest memory. It feels like he hasn’t breathed in minutes. When he comes back to the moment, he finds that perhaps he hasn’t. Harry gasps for air like a fish does for water, and doesn’t find it. His back has slid down the wall somehow and his hands grip his head, hair clenched in fists.
Then he realizes he’s actually panting, a ringing in his ears, blocking out whatever it is people are saying to him. Hermione crouches in front of him where he can’t possibly miss her, palms settling gently on his knees.
“Harry,” she’s saying. “Harry, it’s going to be alright.”
How?
How can it ever possibly be alright again?

Summary
Merlin had never really been a fan of waiting. There was so much to do and he always had such little time to do it, there never really was any opportunities for him to wait. Arthur needed this cleaned and Gaius needed those herbs and Gwen needed his input on something to do with Morgana or Lancelot- it was always one or the other and heaven knows if he bothered to stop by the training field he would never get anything done.
The first time Merlin got to sit down and wait was when Arthur died.
Merlin hated waiting.

Or the one where Arthur comes back, disgusts at modern amneties, Merlin has a mental breakdown and gives Arthur unrestricted internet access (where he becomes a feminist and woke immeadiately)

Merlin has lived many lifetimes since Camelot fell. These days, the world knows him as EMRYS, a reclusive yet world-reknown musician whose songs ache with grief and memory. Yet, away from the cameras, he is only a man in mourning. His hope dimming as his magic left him bit by bit.
But one day, it comes rushing back, bringing with it a new sense of hope.
After 1500 years, Arthur was waking.
Arthur, for his part, also grieves the sharp loss of the world he knew. But he has never been one to run away from a challenge. Even when that challenge includes adapting to the 21st century and the new tender affection between himself and the man who had never left his side.
